There’s really no questioning that electric vehicles are on the fast track to becoming a mainstream component of the automotive industry, as opposed to the niche market powerhouses that we all know and love. The 2016 Nissan LEAF is a favorite of ours here at Nissan of Melbourne, mainly because pulling over to get gas is annoying, and mostly because the LEAF is so much fun! You might be wondering, though; How far can the Nissan LEAF go on a full charge? Our team has your answer!
2016 Nissan LEAF driving range
The 2016 LEAF’s appeal comes from its efficiency and environmentally friendly design, and because of that, it can take you a long way on a full battery! For the 2016 model year, the LEAF comes with two battery options; the standard 24 kWh, and the available 30 kWh batteries. Both are lithium-ion batteries that contain 360 volts, but they differ greatly when it comes to driving range. With the 24 kWH battery, you can travel up to 84 miles, and you can go up to 104 miles with the 30 kWh battery! That may not sound like much, but consider that the average American drives under 20 miles a day. That’s a full week of commuting on a full charge!

How long does it take to charge the LEAF’s battery?
Obviously, it depends on factors such as the car charger you use and how powerful your outlets are, but a typical 120-volt house outlet can charge the LEAF’s battery in around 20 hours. Of course, upgrading to more powerful chargers and stronger outlets can drastically reduce this time; with a 220-volt outlet your LEAF can charge in as little as 6 hours! If you’re in a pinch and need a quick charge but can’t get home, just look around! Nowadays there are plenty of service stations that will offer car chargers, meaning that you’ll never have to worry about pulling over for gas again!
