Nissan of Melbourne

Our favorite fun fact about the history of Nissan vehicles in the US is that they were first sold here in 1958—the same year NASA was established! The first Nissan vehicle to be sold in the US was the Roadster, which was imported in 1958. It was marketed as a sporty compact car, which was not very common at the time.

Manufacturing in the United States

Nissan vehicles were originally sold through American dealerships, and in 1960, Nissan became the first Japanese automaker to manufacture cars in the US. The company established its first US factory in California. Nissan currently manufactures vehicles in four U.S. states: Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama. In fact, Nissan is the only carmaker to manufacture vehicles in all four of those states.

The Long Line of Nissans Over the Years

In 1966, Nissan introduced two new models: the 510 and 1600. The 510 was named Motor Trend’s Car of the Year for 1967 and was one of only four cars ever to win that prestigious award twice. In 1967, Nissan introduced its first pickup truck—a small pickup called the 720. It had a short production run due to poor sales (it sold only 2,500 units).

However, this pickup helped establish Nissan as an automaker that could make rugged cars that could handle just about anything thrown at them—and it paved the way for future trucks like the Frontier series! Then came the long line of Titan pickup trucks, known for their ruggedness, smoothness, and quality ride.

In 1970, Nissan introduced their popular 240Z sports car in America. It quickly became popular among American drivers looking for something different than what they were used to seeing on American roads at that time (mostly muscle cars). The 240Z became so popular that it helped establish Nissan’s reputation among American drivers as a company that makes high-performance cars.

Today, Nissan has sold millions of cars in the United States and is considered among the most reliable carmakers. If you wish to give Nissan a try, visit Nissan of Melbourne. Our friendly staff will help you with all your concerns and hook you up with a Nissan that fits all your expectations.
